From Tracey Scott's op-ed in the Chicago Tribune:
Amid unprecedented congressional uncertainty and unfinished business regarding a 2024 budget, federal support for affordable housing is urgently needed in Chicago.
HUD has updated the guidance for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to allow funding of a wider range of housing-related activities. These include acquisition, adaptive reuse, rehabilitation, reconstruction, housing counseling, and fair housing planning activities.
HUD Funding to Continue at FY23 Levels
On Saturday, September 30, Congress averted a federal government shutdown by passing a Continuing Resolution that funded the government on a short-term basis until November 17. HUD will continue to operate under FY 2023 appropriation levels.
Should Congress fail to pass a Continuing Resolution to continue government funding, the Federal Government will shut down on midnight, Saturday, September 30, 2023. Preparing for a government shutdown can be challenging, but PHAs should take steps to minimize the impact on their operations and the residents they serve. Government shutdowns can vary in duration and severity, so it is essential to have a comprehensive plan in place.
