Barberton Community Foundation’s Board of Directors approved $450,665 across 22 grants in the second of two 2026 competitive grant cycles. Including the total five-year commitment to Magical Theatre Company in this granting cycle’s only long-term grant, the Foundation’s current grants and future commitments from this grant cycle total $590,665.

After Bilal Ali graduated from high school, he wasn’t able to think about college. His father had just died, leaving him on his own, and he was scrambling to support himself.

When he turned 21, he feared he was missing his chance to get a degree entirely and he enrolled at Highline College in Des Moines. But he still had to work overnight to afford the rent for the two-bedroom apartment in Renton he shared with six older men and he was struggling with so little sleep. Looking back, he doubts he could have finished.

Chicago Housing Authority youth unveiled a new large-scale community mural they created this summer on the rear exterior wall of the Hyde Park Art Center. The youth, ages 18-24, worked alongside acclaimed mural artist Dorian Sylvain, collaborating to design and paint the mural that will remain on display for the next three months.
